Information

What do you eat? Where do you go? Where do you invest? What is happening about....?, all the information you want. Where do you find the information? Is that accurate? Did you get it on time? Is it help you or do you find it troublesome?

Twentieth century saw a dramatic changes in the way we store, retrieve and share information. The quantity of information can store is increased, the time to retrieve the information stored decreased, and easiest the searching of information and convenient to exchange the information with others. Is it fast enough? Is it easy enough? Is it convenient enough? In order to appreciate what we have now, we have to look at the history of information exchange.

If we check the history of information exchange, it starts from ancient days when information is transfer to the new generation in the form of songs or phrases or stories. They find that rhymes, stories and idioms are easy to remember and remembrance is essential to transfer it to successive generations. Then they find a mechanism to store information using symbols and a medium. The symbols become written language and the medium was rock, metals, or leafs. They find a method to write symbols in one of these medium. Finally they find paper and pen and we got it.

We continue our information revolution by inventing better method to store, maintain, retrieve and to copy it. Different bookkeeping methods and copying machines are examples of this improvements.

We find we are missing something. The speed. Somebody speaks. Somebody listen. Then he write it. Whoever get a chance to read it. Whoever interested in it and spend time to find it may read the content. There is chance of the information to be misrepresented or misinterpreted. Also there is a transmission delay.

We find a way to transmit our sound and letters through a wire. One person speak to a machine in one end. Another person in the other end can listen. At the same time...same voice...distance is not a problem as long as they are connected. Give your letter to the machine in one end, on the other end a similar kind of machine can reproduce it. Isn't it wonderful?

There is a little problem here. Both have to schedule the time. One want to speak. What happen when no one ready to listen? There is a scheduling problem. Don't worry. There is a solution. I can record your voice or you write what you want to say. I will hear your voice or your message later.

We never stop our revolution there. We continue to improve the speed, clarity, reliability and convenience of information exchange. It is not possible to communicate if the parties are not connected by a wire. It is not that pretty. No problem. We can do that. No wire required. You can send the message as radio signals. There is a small equipment which can identify and catch the messages aimed at him and transform this message as voice, picture, letter or whatever you like. So you can not only just hear, but also you can see at the same time. Not just black and white. All the possible colors you can imagine. Don't worry even if you miss the magic moment. We will store it. You and your coming generations can see it any time you want.

Isn't enough. Nooooooo. I won't satisfy until I get all the information in the world, anytime I want, in the medium of my choice and in my convenience. Also it should be faster, reliable and accurate. How it is possible. You do not know what is out there. Hello!!! Knowledge is limited and ignorance have no limit. How do you know the information is accurate? How you can make it accurate? There is a long way to go. But why we are thinking about the impossible now? First make it happened. I want to access all the information out there. Can I access it. If there is a will there is a way.
